The inspiration for this form comes from the collision of two waves. As they roll up each other they break apart and the droplets shatter at the summit as gravity takes hold. This moment, frozen in time is emphasized through the two major material qualities, its rigid glass-like form and wave-like refractions that warp light both on the surface and the surrounding geometry.

Created in Autodesk Maya, a render of two wave-like forms colliding. The waves themselves are a very low poly geometry with a material providing displacement mapping. Caustic effects from mentalRay.
